Safer Washoe County Plan

Charging Standard
Under the current charging standard, the District Attorney is failing to charge some of the most dangerous offenders, releasing them back into our community to commit more heinous crimes. Across our region, residents have been murdered or seriously injured by “catch and no charge” policies.

On day one, I will end this disastrous charging policy and prioritize public safety over an overly burdensome, soft-on-crime approach that values a “win rate” over protecting our community.

We cannot continue releasing dangerous offenders back into our neighborhoods, as we’ve seen in many jurisdictions across the country.

Reuniting the Law Enforcement Community with the District Attorney’s Office
Under the current administration, the relationship between law enforcement and the District Attorney’s Office is broken. Not only are many cases not being charged, but there is also a failure to collaborate and properly train law enforcement as a district attorney should.

On day one, I will restore trust with our law enforcement partners. We will work together to identify crime trends and align the resources of the District Attorney’s Office to effectively combat crime.

Specialty Prosecution Teams
The current District Attorney has failed to modernize the office by relying on general felony teams that handle all types of cases. Instead, we need specialized teams, including a gang unit, a crime suppression and repeat offenders team, a robust human trafficking unit, a domestic violence unit, and a team focused on fraud and theft, including retail theft and senior fraud.

“I am honored to be law enforcement’s choice in this race for Washoe County District Attorney. As a father of four young children and an Iraq war veteran, I understand how critical it is to protect our community from crime and keep our county safe.”

Training
We will implement a dedicated law enforcement training program to assist officers in writing reports, developing cases, and staying current on emerging legal trends. This will ensure law enforcement is fully equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to protect public safety.

Homeless Camps and Downtown Reno
We need a District Attorney who will work with regional partners to clean up downtown Reno.

First, Washoe County must collaborate with regional partners to establish a coordinated law enforcement team dedicated to connecting individuals experiencing homelessness with services, while also enforcing the law.

Second, anyone willing to accept help should have access to available resources. However, when laws are violated, the community is endangered, or public health is at risk, enforcement must follow—no excuses. Third, no business or family should be harassed due to a lack of enforcement. We can provide services, but we must also uphold the law.

Finally, we must acknowledge that downtown Reno has become more dangerous, and the lack of enforcement is unacceptable. I will prioritize prosecution of downtown crime and work with partners across the region to restore safety. Reno should be the jewel of the Mountain West, and a safer downtown will support families and businesses alike.

Restore Integrity
No one is above the law. As your next District Attorney, I will restore integrity to the office by applying the law equally and rooting out cronyism, nepotism, backroom deals, special treatment for the well-connected, fraud, and “business as usual” politics in Washoe County. We will also restore accountability and transparency in county government and empower the people of Washoe County to take back control of their government.
